All things existing in this nature have at least one extra usage except their main one. The coconut tree is the best-ever example of my point because there are hundreds of uses apart from drinking coconut water and eating flesh.

So, what do you do to the coconut shell after eating coconut flesh?

If you are pretty smart, sure, you will use the shells for another thing. What are they? Let’s check what you can do with coconut shells in the garden!

 

Perfect home for your plants

This is a great chance to say goodbye to plastic and expensive pots. Usually, many small plant lovers like cacti have to search for small pots because they will have a great look with small pots due to their size, and most of them are kept inside of the home.

Isn’t it? So why can’t you use half coconut shells to plant these small plants?

How to plant small plants in coconut shell pots

Growing greens themselves are very important to mother nature as well as growing plants yourself is also a valuable contribution to the environment you have done.

But how do you grow plants?

Just follow the below simple steps to grow a plant successfully.

Step 1: Find below the required things

  • Half coconut shells that are well cleaned and scraped
  • Good soil. Here you can use cocopeat
  • Tool to make holes
  • Desired plant or seeds

Step 2: Make a few holes at the bottom of the coconut shell.

Tender coconut is also a good alternative for coconut shells. These holes help to remove excess water from the pot while supporting the root’s growth without any obstructions.

Step 3: Fill the coconut shell with soil or cocopeat

Step 4: plant your desired plant or seeds in your coconut pot and look after them well.

 

How to make a hanging coconut planter?

Are you a person who loves vertical gardens? So, this is for you.

Step 1: Cut 4 pieces of jute rope

Make sure they are long enough to tie knots around the coconut shell. However, leaving some extra few inches at the end is better.

Step 2: Put 4 holes around the top edges of the coconut shell

Step 3: Use 4 pieces of jute ropes to hang up your coconut shell planters

In addition to these tricks, you can attach half coconut shells to the wall or fence.

Special note

Before planting your plant, put the drainage layer and soil into the shell. Then place your plant and hang up carefully.

 

What plants you can grow in coconut shells

Due to the size of the shell, you cannot plant any plant variety in the coconut shell. So, before planting, check the maximum length, growthrate, maximum diameter of the plant.

Generally, the floral and other ornamentals plants can grow in coconut shells.

 

How to make seeds starter disc with coconut shell?

Apart from planting vegetation in the coconut shells, you can make a small plant nursery using coconut shells. What is it meant?

Generally, before planting the main container, we plant seeds in a small container to get baby plants. After that, we remove them from small containers and plant them  separately in their main containers.

Here to do this, you can use coconut shells. What you have to do is fill the coconut shell with coconut peats and place seeds. Then cover them using soil or coconut peats.

Make a bird feeder using coconut shell

You can install coconut shell bird feeders in your garden, and it will work well to attract birds to your garden. Going through the below steps will help you to get amazing results.

Just try it!

Step 1: Find out below things before you start the work

  • Half coconut shell/s
  • Sandpaper
  • Jigsaw machine
  • Piece of rope
  • Grains
  • Rice starch

Step 2: Clean and smoothen the coconut shell

First, you should clean the coconut shell, which should be in good condition. Then smoothened the outer surface of the coconut shell using sandpaper.

Step 3: Make a hole on the top edge of the coconut shell using a jigsaw machine

Step 4: After making the hole, insert a twine rope through the hole and make a knot

Keep in mind to make a loop that enables the bird feeder to be hung.

Step 5: Make a grain mixture

Here you need grains and rice starch. Alternatively, sesame seeds can be used. Collect them and mix well.

This will be like a binding agent because it will get well and fully fixed in the shell. Give some time to dry it well. Usually, it takes around 24 hours to dry well. But the time depends on the climate condition.

Step 6: Hang your coconut shell bird feeder

After ensuring the mixture is entirely dried unless food falls to the ground. Also, be smart to select a good place in your garden to hang the bird feeder.

Make a bird nest using coconut shell

Birds create their home using many natural things. So, how can you give them a safe home in your garden?

Step1:  Collect the below things

  • 2 halves of coconut shells
  • Twine thread

Step 2: Take two coconut shells and place them in such a way to form a c shape

Here, you should place one coconut shell horizontally, and another shell is placed inside vertically in it, forming a hollow.

Step 3: Tie them well using thick twine threads

Step 4: Cover the outer layer of the coconut shell with natural coir

Step 5: Spread the coir evenly to cover the outer shell and tie the excess coir that is held beneath the coconut shell

Step 6: Take glue and apply it to the coir

Step 7: cut a small hole with a scissor on top of the oval-like structure where the coconut shell does not obstruct after drying the glue.

Step 8: hang or place it in an appropriate place in your garden
