So, does it need to store all fruits to keep them fresh? If you can keep the freshness of fruits without a refrigerator, you can save more space in the fridge and bring enough fruits from one trip. However, you can keep your fruits fresh by using below simple techniques.

CAREFUL WHEN PICKING FRUITS

First of all, you should be careful when buying or picking fruits. Follow these guides when you buy fruits.

  • Pick fruits that are not nicked, bruised, rotten, or overripe. Because if any sign in fruit that has already short lifetime.
  • Do not buy refrigerated fruits. You can be seen there are refrigerated fruits and non-refrigerated fruits in stores.

However, it is better to go to farmer’s markets and local fruit shops. Because the flavor of refrigerated fruits can be changed, and the storage ability will be reduced. Further, if you buy refrigerated fruits, they will spoil faster than non-refrigerated fruits.

  • Bring home your fruits gently. This is vital. Because most of the time the fruits may spoil during the transporting.

When you bring them, it is a must to make sure that nothing will fall onto your fruits and won’t roll around, especially when you come by vehicle.

Keep in mind that bruised and squashed will lead to shorten the life of your fruits.

DO NOT WASH THE FRUITS

Do not tend to wash all fruits because it is not better to wash some fruits except just before eating them.

SEPARATE ETHYLENE PRODUCING FRUITS AND ETHYLENE SENSITIVE FRUITS

Some fruits emit ethylene gas. It is a natural plant hormone included in some fruits. It has the ability to speed up the ripening process when it contacts oxygen and carbon dioxide.

So, some fruits release this gas when they are ripping. Some other fruits are sensitive to this gas. Because of that, when you store fruits, you should keep away ethylene-sensitive fruits from ethylene-producing fruits unless ethylene-sensitive fruits may spoil fast.

So, let’s see what are the ethylene-sensitive fruits and ethylene-producing fruits separately. It will be a help for you.

  • Apple
  • Apricot

DO NOT PUT PRE-CUTS

It is recommended to cut your fruits when you are ready to eat them. Because cut fruits have a high probability of spoiling whole fruits, do not store large amounts of cut fruits at room temperature.

STORE FRUITS AT THEIR PREFERRED TEMPERATURE

When you go to the supermarket, do you ever notice that all fruits store in the refrigerator? Your answer should be definitely no!

It is indirectly derived that fruits prefer to stay at various temperatures. However, some fruits spoil faster in cold temperatures.

On the other hand, some fruits prefer cold temperatures. If you do not have a refrigerator or space in the refrigerator, you can keep these fruits on the lower level of the house. For instance, a lower cupboard in the kitchen or pantry is better.

When raising the warm, it is better to keep these fruits as close to the ground as possible where the temperature may be a few degrees coolers.

In addition to that, it is better to keep fruits that prefer cold temperatures in the dark. Because sunlight also has the ability to warm up. In general, do not store any fruit in a place where exposed to direct sunlight.

However, before you follow the above tips, it is better to beware of lucking rodents and other pests. Finally, keep the fruits under their desired temperature. Consequently, they will stay until their optimum lifetime.

DO NOT HARVEST HOME-GROWN FRUITS TOO EARLY

If you are growing fruits for your own consumption, it is better to pick the fruits at the right time. Please do not pick them up too early. It means let your fruits ripen. Anyhow this is a best practice if you have a large garden.

KEEP THE PROPER HUMIDITY LEVEL

It is better to maintain a proper humidity level. But keep in mind humidity does not mean the wet.

REMOVE OR COMPOST THE OVERRIPE FRUITS

Suppose you hear that one spoiled fruit is spoiled other fruits too. Actually, this statement has somewhat truth. Because if any mold begins to grow on one fruit, it will spread fast to other fruits and can be spoiled the whole bucket.

Because of that, do not store overripe or damaged fruits with other healthy-looking fruits. Here you can consume or remove that kind of fruit.

CONSUME WHAT ROT QUICKEST FIRST

Generally, fruits have different lifespans. Therefore, It is better to eat fruits that quickly rot. Consequently, guessing the right time will help you to enjoy the fruit without any issue!
