Fruits that start with the letter Z

When compared with the other letters of the English alphabet fewer words are starting with the letter ‘z’. So it is very difficult to find the words that begin with the letter ‘z’.

These are the fruits starting with the letter ‘z’

1.zinfandel grapes

2.zucchini

3.Zigzag vine

4.zhe fruit

5 zapote fruit

 

Here are some more details about these five fruits with their scientific names.

 

1.Zinfandel grapefruit (Scientific Name- Vitis vinifera )

This is a type of grape consisting of a color range from deep red to purple-black. It is native to Croatia and it belongs to the Crljenak Kaštelansk variety. But in the 1800s zinfandel  introduced to the united states. Can eat freshly.

 

mostly used to make wine and jam. Cultivate in Mexico, Chile, Australia, Croatia, Italy. Zinfandel grapes have a sweet acidic flavor. it has about 135 calories in one five-ounce glass. National zinfandel day is on the 3rd Wednesday in November.

White Zinfandel wine is very famous in America it discovered in 1995 in Califonia still it is producing due to its demand. Zinfandel also uses to make a red win and brush wine.

 

2.Zucchini (Scientific Name -Cucurbita pepo)

We all know zucchini as a vegetable. But actually, it’s a fruit and it’s a type of squash(do you know, tomato is also a fruit it is not a vegetable). Zucchini was originated in America then Italians brought it to their home and cultivated it. Again in the 1920s, they introduced it to America they called ‘Zucchini’ and later it changed to the name ‘Zucchini’.

The color of zucchini changes from light green to dark green and some have stripes. It is similar to cucumber in appearance. This cylindrical fruit can grow at about 1m in length and 7cm in diameter but it is harvesting at 15cm to 30 cm (6-10 inches).

100g of zucchini has 17 calories. vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, riboflavin, magnesium, manganese are some nutrients of it. romanesco, tatume, yellow crooknecks are some varieties of zucchini. you can buy it throughout the year. Finally, it is not a vegetable starting from the letter ‘z’ it’s a fruit starting from the letter ‘z’.

3. Zigzag vine fruit ( Scientific Name- Melodorum leichhardtii)

Zigzag vine also called wild banana and acid drop vine. It is native to Australia(New South Wales, Queensland). But it also grows in countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Mostly it grows in the host trees in rainforests and climbs up. This fruit is round, peanut-shaped, and orange colored. It has an acidic flavor.

4. Zhe fruit ( Scientific Name-Maclura tricuspidate)

Zhe is a native fruit of East Asia. Grows in countries like china, japan, Nepal. It looks like a mulberry but it is not classified as mulberry.

Zhe fruit is a small round-shaped fruit. When it young it is green in color and it turns in to red when it is ripe. It has a sweet flavor when it is ripe and have about six small seeds inside the fruit.

Mature Zhe trees are tall up to 6m. Zhe fruit  also called Chinese mulberry, silkworm,che, and mandarin melon berry.

5. Zapote fruit- ( Scientific Name -Pouteria sapota )

Zapote fruit is also named sapote fruit. Anyway, both are the same. There are 3 types of Zapote black zapote, Mamey zapote, and white zapote. It is native to Central America, Colombia, the Caribbean, and Mexico.

Skin color is the green color when it is young. Green turns to dark brown when it is ripe. It is fleshy when it’s ripe and the inner surface is like a chocolate pudding. Have a fleshy sweet mild flavor. It is rich in vitamin C, E, and K. in central America they use Zapote to make beverages by mixing zapote with ice, sugar, milk with water.

 

 

Zapote trees are averagely about 25m in height with black bark trunk. Normally farmers pick the fruit before they are ripe because if it is ripe on the tree then it is falling and get damages due to fleshy smooth skin. Therefore they let it ripen. It takes up to 10 days to ripe.

Zapote comes to the market in June and you can buy it till January but in the united states, you can buy it in February too because their zapotes ripe at the end of the year. Not only as a fruit but also the leaves and barks of zapote use in medical purposes in countries like the Philippine. Finally, I recommend you to try black zapote.

 

6. Ziziphus Mauritiana (Indian jujube fruit)

This name is the scientific name of Indian jujube fruit. So I don’t like to think of this as a fruit starting from ‘z’. That’s why I didn’t include it in the above list.

Ziziphus Mauritiana is also named as Indian plum, Indian cherry, Malay jujube, Indian jujube, Chinese date. In the past firstly this fruit was found in the Indo-Malaysian region which belongs to Southeast Asia. After that, this was planted in other countries.

Indian jujube fruit is green in color and round in shape. There is a small seed outside the fruit. But when it ripe it turns to orange color. Can eat fleshily or after drying. This fruit used to make candy. In Indonesia, they make some a beverage from Indian jujube. Leaves used as vegetables to cook. The leaves barks and roots  used for making medicines.

 

So these are the fruits starting with the letter ‘z’ in the English alphabet. But many other fruits are starting with this letter in other languages and countries. In this article, we have considered only the names of the fruits in the English language.
